As the Addams Family tickets everyone wants sell fast and the show opens on Broadway, we are seeing some great reviews. The Addams Family musical company couldn’t be better, and their individual gifts are greater than the sum of the parts. This makes for an awesome show full of the kind of spooky twists we have come to expect from this famous story. The Chicago tryout proved a massive success, and now the cast has been moved to Broadway it is shining bighter than ever. Broadway is set to become a commercial classic due to its huge popular appeal and a perfect Hollywood figurehead in Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth. The Addams Family in Chicago was good, but the Broadway production is much better. The production has been given a few shine ups here and there, and those in the know say that it is a great improvement.
The chief focus of the story is daughter Wednesday, who falls in love with a boy from a non-eerie family, and inevitably brings him home to meet her folks. As you can imagine, this runs like The Birdcage meets Frankenstein and big laughs are guaranteed. When Wednesday’s boyfriend’s family come to dinner at the Addams mansion calamity ensues, and a winning soundtrack brings things to life with gusto.
Kevin Chamberlin is an incredible Uncle Fester and Nathan Lane excels as Gomez, the carefree but harried cigar-smoking patriarch. Addams Family Musical tickets are a trip down a dark corridor where grinning lanterns and crazed bats collide and giggle, but everywhere creeps the ghost of Charles Addams himself. This is fitting, as references to Addams the cartoonist continue to appear in most writeups of the production, as the stage itself adds to a sense of artful decorum the TV show somehow lacked. That’s not to say that this production owes more to Addams’ creations than it does to its most famous incarnation, but Broadway is theater and TV is, well, TV. Neuwirth and Lane are compelling enough on heir own to sell Addams Family Broadway tickets, but with the addition of Chamberlin and Krysta Rodriguez as Wednesday, not to mention Adam Riegler who plays younger brother Pugsley, the Addams Family Musical is making the critics swoon. Everyone wants to laugh when they go to the theater; it’s easy to write a depressing melodrama but it’s not so easy to create a comedy that wins them over in numbers like tThe Addams Musical. Tickets have sold at Wicked-like rates and this means Addams is shaping up to be one of the very top sellers in the world today.
From the new opening number, “When You’re an Addams,” to another new number “Morticia”, Addams Family Broadway sets a somewhat different tone to the Chicago version. It addresses the audience more closely and allows a deeper tinge of the macabre to creep into things. Despite it’s theaterliness (is that a real workd?) it remains more in touch with the television version, which is the real secret of its massive success on the Great White Way. To hear the Addams Family sing “Give us shadows, give us gloom,” live in the flesh you need to buy Addams Family Musical tickets. Believe me, it’s worth its weight in gold. Or bats. Or spiders. Or Cuban cigars. Go for it, you won’t be disappointed!
