The big news right now is that Tim Burton, the man behind so many Hollywood animated movies, is considering a stop-motion animation of The Addams Family! That’s right, those Addams Family tickets you’re buying right now might just be the first link in the chain of a whole series of revivals for the production. Producer Christopher Meledandri recently stated, “It’s all very, very early, but we are developing with Tim Burton as a director in mind. We’re just now at the story phase. Stuff has been written as though we are doing it in black and white, but that’s not correct. It’s not incorrect, but it’s not correct. We haven’t gotten to that point.”
The plan is still in its early stages, and who knows if it will even come to anything but it is an exciting prospecrt for those who are currently scanning The Addams Family schedule, that’s for sure. The Burton animation will be based directly on the Charles Addams cartoon from The New Yorker magazine, which means a great retro feel to the look of things if it goes ahead. A stop-motion Addams Family cartoon would be coming along at just the right moment, so buy those Addams Family Musical tickets and let’s hope when we’ve seen the stage production we’ll have a new movie version to see, too!
